Job Title and Description:
Sr Network Engineer - Product Development

Summary
The Sr. Network Engineer will be responsible for developing technologies in any one or multiples of the following: Ethernet/IP, IP-VPNs, MPLS, VOIP, IPTV, and related next generation services and applications into viable new products.  As part of HT¿s Product Development team, the Sr. Network Engineer will develop technical designs and operational recommendations required for deployment and support of these products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1 (25%) Architect/Design provider based network solutions primarily upon HT's MPLS core network.  These solutions include the use of VPLS, VPRN, VLL and other Layer 2/3 networking protocols to allow for voice, video, Internet, and other data services.

2  (25%) Perform proof of concept and full validation testing of new or modified network products in a lab environment using Layer 2/3 network stress tools.  Provide documentation of test plans and results.

3  (25%) Document method and procedures, work instructions, provisioning guidelines and engineering specifications. Interface at the appropriate technical level to assist with the definition, design, test, and support of these services offered over HT¿s various data networks.

4  (10%)   Assist Operations team with first office and/or initial customer deployment.

5  (5%) Provide Tier III support to IP Services Operations Team and NOC on escalated technical issues on a 24x7 basis.

6  (10%) Responsible for the development of Next Generation network standards and policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications
A. Education/Certification:
- Bachelor¿s Degree from an accredited, four-year University in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Communications, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or equivalent educational or professional experience and/or qualifications with a minimum of 5 years experience.
- Alcatel 7x50 training/experience and/or certifications
- Cisco CCNP, CCIP, CCDP and/or CCIE

B. Work experience:
- Five or more years of previous professional experience in a large, diverse, multi-location WAN and Telecommunications environments preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with system engineering of WAN/LAN design and management.
- Demonstrated work experience in leading a team-based environment on large-scale projects and networks.
- IP Security experience preferred.

C. Computer / Technical Skills or Experience:
- Working experience in the design and operational deployment of the following:
- Quality of Service (QoS) and Class of Service (CoS) Technologies
- Queuing/Scheduling
- MPLS networking with VPLSs, VPRNs, Martini tunnels, LDPs, RSVP-TE, FRR, VRRP, VLANs, VLLs, LSPs, 802.1Q/p/x, DSCP, and internetworking w/ ATM/Frame-relay.
- Multicast and Multicast routing protocols: PIM-DM, PIM-SM, MBGP, MOSPF, MSDP, SSM, IGMPv3, CGMP.
- Routing protocols including OSPF, BGP, MP-BGP, IGP, PIM, RIP, IGRP, EIGRP.
- VPN Technologies
- Demonstrated experience with Frame-Relay, ATM, MPLS/VPLS, and point-to-point networking in a large, diverse, multi-location WAN environment.
- Experience in utilizing network management tools and network diagnostic tools to help with network tuning and packet analysis.
- Experience with the following equipment:
- Lucent CBX-500, BSTDX-9000, Naviscore
- Alcatel EMS systems: AMS, SAM, 5750, 5530
- Alcatel Routers/Switches: 7450/7710/7750, 7470/7670
- Juniper E-series routers, M-series routers
- Juniper ISG2000 Firewalls, Netscreen
- Cisco Routers/Switches: 26xx/28xx, 29xx, 36xx/37xx/38xx, 65xx, 72xx/73xx, 75xx/76xx
- Cisco PIX/ASA Firewalls
- WAN - T1/T3, SONET
- B-RAS devices, load balancers and route reflectors.
- SNMP, HP Openview, Netcool, other network service assurance tools
- Unix shell, TCL, Expect or Perl scripting skills
- Knowledge/experience with xDSL, DSLAMs, Ethernet over Copper, VOIP, RPR, ATM, FR, NG-ADM, etc.
- Experience with the following test tools and environments:
- Spirent, IXIA, JDSU and/or Agilent - IP based stress test and protocol analysis tools
- iPERF
- Remote Testing, Monitoring & Surveillance probes (ie. QT-600, IPMAX, etc.)
- Various Traffic Utilization and Network Management tools in a Layer 2/3 environment - MRTG, RRDTOOL, Infovista, SevOne, etc.
- Ethernet Sniffers - Network Instruments Observer, Wireshark, Network Associates SNIFFER, etc.
- Optical Light Meters, Copper Cable testers, and digital VOMs
- Video Quality Tools - Ineoquest, MediaFLO, Tektronix, N2X, VLC, etc.

Work Conditions
- Daytime tour of duty; occasional scheduled night and weekend work.
- Subject to callout.
- Work may be performed in an enclosed area lacking windows
- Able to operate analytical test equipment such as data analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
- May require late hours and weekends to complete assignments and projects.
- Indoor work.  
- Exposed to indoor conditions, dust, noise, dirt, heat, various lighting conditions, etc.
- Outdoor work - occasionally

Physical Requirements

- Work may be performed a various locations under varying conditions.
- Requires standing, sitting, lifting/carrying supplies and training materials up to 40 lbs, and reading paper documentation and electronic communications.
- May require traveling to various locations and company branches and departments throughout the State of Hawaii in a timely manner so must possess a valid Hawaii State Driver¿s License.
- May require sitting and/or standing for long periods of time.
- May require identifying and distinguishing colors.
- Able to operate analytical test equipment such as data analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Ability to lift, carry, set up, climb and take down ladders.
- May require climbing ladders.
- May require identifying and distinguish audible tones/levels and colors.
- Required to meet multiple priorities and project due dates.  May require late hours and weekends to complete assignments and projects.
