Position Description:
Chief Scientist assigned to the Innovative Research and Optical Site Support (IROSS) contract at the Maui Space Surveillance System (MSSS) located on the island of Maui, HI. The Chief Scientist provides technical leadership and expertise for scientific research and development projects in a collaborative research environment with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) customer in the disciplines of adaptive optics, image analysis and atmospheric compensation that contributes to improving Space Situational Awareness (SSA). Responsibilities include: performance of research on projects, identification of new research opportunities, development of technical/ scientific proposals and papers, attendance, presentation, and representation of Boeing and MSSS at technical conferences, and publication of research through Air Force system to the scientific community. Mentoring of scientists, engineers and analysts is a key responsibility of the Chief Scientist. Significant experience is required in leading and conducting research in SSA and directed energy systems encompassing disciplines such as laser beam propagation, adaptive optics, imaging science, atmospherics, radiometry, photometry, spectrometry, astrodynamics, and astronomy. Must be proficient in the development of high order mathematics and physics based solutions and skilled in the use of modeling and simulation to solve complex problems. Must have experience in application of research to solve real world problems using a broad range of data types from ground based electro-optical telescopes. Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills are required. Desire the incumbent to be an acknowledged expert in one or more of the aforementioned scientific disciplines supporting SSA.

Education Requirements:
Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 20 or more years' experience, Master's with 18 or more years' experience or PhD with 15 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

U.S. citizenship is necessary for all positions requiring access to classified information.  Applicants selected must be able to work at 10,000 ft. elevation.
